FFI GLOSSARY

Metric Definition Document

Definition

A document that specifies, for each key performance indicator maintained by the company, the exact calculation methodology, the data source, the update frequency, the owner responsible for accuracy, and the historical record of any changes to the definition. The metric definition document is a required component of the KPI framework at Level 2 and above. Without it, metrics cannot be verified, compared across periods, or handed over to new team members.

Common Misapplication

The most common misapplication is maintaining informal definitions of metrics in the heads of specific individuals rather than in a documented and version-controlled document. When those individuals leave the company, the basis on which the metrics were calculated is lost.

FFI Standard Reference

This term is defined and applied in Book 6, Section 6.4: The KPI Framework Standard.
