FFI GLOSSARY

Metric Owner

Definition

The designated individual responsible for the accuracy, currency, and consistent calculation of a specific key performance indicator. Every metric in the company's KPI framework must have a named owner. The metric owner is responsible for producing the metric on schedule, investigating discrepancies, and updating the metric definition document when the calculation methodology changes.

Common Misapplication

The most common misapplication is assigning metric ownership to the most senior person with relevant oversight rather than to the person closest to the underlying data. Ownership by a senior person who delegates the calculation without accountability creates a gap between the stated owner and the person responsible for accuracy.
